Young-chan has been deaf and blind since early childhood; his wife Soon-ho suffers from a spinal condition that has arrested her growth at just under four feet. Together, they inch through life in South Korea at snail’s pace in this tranquil, poetic documentary by Yi Seung-jun.
With no explanatory opening, we’re forced to feel our way until we understand the couple’s plight. At first, the unfamiliarity of their situation is disorientating — to communicate they type Braille symbols on one another’s hands – but the more of their relationship we see, the less alien it seems.
